Action 6: The Commission and the Publications Office of the EU will support complete uptake of ELI and ECLI. For ECLI, ensure that, by 2030, all case-law in all Member States is assigned an ECLI and can easily be found on the ECLI search engine on the European e-Justice Portal. The first step will be to assign an ECLI to all new court decisions in all courts. The second will be to integrate all existing case-law. Action 9: In the context of the European Investigation Order Directive review, the Commission will seek to enable remote participation in criminal court hearings of suspects or accused persons from another Member State via videoconference, including the necessary procedural safeguards. Today, the European Commission presented the Digital Justice package 2030, an initiative to modernise justice systems across the EU and ensure that justice professionals are equipped with tools fit for the digital age. The Judicial Training Strategy includes practical training, for example, on digital case management systems, digital cross-border cooperation tools and secure communication technologies; and further awareness raising activities on the impacts of digital and AI-tools in justice. Judges and other justice professionals also need to have appropriate training to apply EU digital law, such as the Digital Services Act. Digitalised justice systems are essential for an attractive business and investment environment. They improve transparency, reduce delays, and make procedures more efficient and accessible - especially in cross-border cases.
